| The estate | Domaine de la Ville Rouge is located in the heart of the appellation, in the commune of Mercurol. Sébastien Girard manages his 20-hectare estate as a passionate winemaker. Respectful of the earth, he strives for a healthy vineyard to produce quality grapes and a lively wine. The entire estate is certified organic and biodynamic. |
| Viticulture | The vines are 40 years old. The soils are composed of quaternary alluvial gravel deposited by the Rhône and Isère rivers. The year at the estate is punctuated by the seasons and the moon to apply the biodynamic preparations needed to stimulate soil life and strengthen the vines. The soil is enriched by organic suckler cow manure, which is composted with dynamized preparations. The virtues of other plants, transmitted by herbal teas, infusions or decoctions, complete this farming method. |
| Winemaking | Fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Vinification is traditional, with pumping over and occasional punching of the cap. Maceration takes place on marc for more than a week, then the wines are warmed in barrels for 12 months of ageing. |
