Description | Black Hawaiian salt is produced on the island of Molokai, east of the island of Oahu in the Hawaiian archipelago. It’s a salt that combines two natural elements: sea salt and activated carbon from volcanic rocks, the very origin of the archipelago. Once a natural process, this assembly is now done by hand in the island’s saltworks, by adding the black rock in the salt marshes. The result is a uniquely fine, iodized salt with a slight smoky taste. It is significantly stronger than other salts, and should therefore be used sparingly.
Black salt is also known for its health benefits. In fact, it contains less sodium chloride, which in excess is harmful to health, than conventional salts. The activated charcoal it contains has positive effects on the digestive system, stomach and intestines, and eases difficult digestion. |
