The vines are 40 years old. The soils are composed of stony alluvial deposits from the Quaternary period, laid down by the Rhône and Isère rivers. The year at the estate is governed by the seasons, but also by the lunar cycle, which determines the application of biodynamic preparations necessary to stimulate soil life and strengthen the vines. Soil enrichment is achieved through the addition of organic suckler cow manure, which is composted with dynamized preparations. The beneficial properties of other plants, conveyed through herbal teas, infusions, or decoctions, also complement this agricultural method.

Upon arrival at the winery, the whole bunches of grapes are pressed to ensure optimal juice drainage. The juice is then chilled for 24 hours before settling, and then transferred to barrels for fermentation. The must will undergo six months of aging with regular lees stirring to add richness to the wine.

Domaine de la Ville Rouge

Domaine de la Ville Rouge has been a family estate since 1916. It is located in the commune of Mercurol, in the heart of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. Sébastien Girard joined his father in 2006. Now, he manages the 20-hectare estate with the passion of a true winemaker. In 2016, his wife Audrey joined him and took over the administrative side of the business. Respectful of the land, they strive for a healthy vineyard to produce quality grapes and vibrant wines. The entire estate is therefore certified organic and biodynamic.

Northern Rhône Valley

The Rhône Valley is one of France's major wine regions, renowned for its many iconic appellations. It stretches along the Rhône River, between Vienne and Avignon, and is divided into two distinct parts: the north and the south. The northern part is smaller and dominated by Syrah for red wines and Viognier for white wines.

The hillsides are steep, and the vines, planted in granite soils, give rise to elegant, intense, and spicy red wines, with a remarkable expression of Syrah. It is also the cradle of great white wines made from Viognier and Marsanne, renowned for their finesse and complexity.

The Rhône Valley is also marked by a long winemaking tradition and a strong commitment to respecting the terroir. Many winegrowers there now practice sustainable viticulture.
