Copado 2022, Rasteau red AOC, Domaine des Amadieu

Regular price CHF 19.50

Description

Copado is a subtle blend of Grenache, Cinsault, and Syrah. It has a deep nose with aromas of fruit and spice, and a clean, powerful, and well-balanced palate. The tannins are still firm but already very pleasant, suggesting great aging potential. From a very small plot, it is a highly exclusive wine (2,700 bottles per year).

Food and wine pairings

Copado will go very well with a rack of lamb in a gingerbread crust, but also with a beef steak with ceps.

South-facing clay-limestone terraces. Yields controlled by green work such as bud removal and thinning. Hand-harvested with very rigorous berry selection.

The grapes are destemmed and vinified separately by plot and grape variety. Maceration then lasts for over three weeks with gentle pump-overs and punch-downs. Finally, aging takes place partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in oak barrels (two or three uses) for 20% of the blend, for eight months. This Rasteau red is produced in a very limited quantity of approximately 2,730 bottles.

Domaine des Amadieu

Located in the village of Cairanne in the southern Rhône Valley, the estate was established in 1992 by a local family. The winery, built at the same time, blends seamlessly into the farmhouse. An authentic mid-19th-century building, it was once home to a family named Amadieu. Yves Jean and Corine, both trained as agricultural engineers and with roots in the land, acquired this 7-hectare property in 2007 as part of a conversion project. Domaine des Amadieu is certified organic and biodynamic.

Southern Rhône Valley

It is one of France's major wine regions, renowned for its many iconic appellations. Stretching along the Rhône River between Vienne and Avignon, it is divided into two distinct parts: the north and the south. The latter is a vast mosaic where the AOCs (Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée) give pride of place to Grenache Noir, primarily blended with Syrah and Mourvèdre. White wines are represented notably by Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, and Roussanne.

In the south, the diverse terroirs of rolled pebbles, sand, and clay produce generous, sun-drenched, and warm wines. The Rhône Valley is also marked by a long winemaking tradition and a strong commitment to respecting the terroir. Many winemakers there now practice sustainable viticulture.
