Zingamaro 2019, Val di Neto IGT, Calabria, La Pizzuta del Principe

Regular price CHF 21.00

Description

The Zingamaro, flagship of Pizzuta del Principe, immediately captivates us with its deep, purplish hue. Its charming aromas of ripe cherries and cocoa precede a rich and smooth palate with well-integrated tannins and a long, flavorful finish. It is already very enjoyable in its youth, but also ages well and can be cellared for up to ten years. A perfect harmony, courtesy of Albino Bianchi.

Food and wine pairings

Zingamaro pairs very well with game birds and barbecued red meats.

The grape harvest begins in the second week of October. The berries are pre-selected in the vineyard. The harvest is done manually at night to prevent oxidation of the berries.

Pre-fermentation maceration at 6-7°C. Gentle pressing followed by temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation with the skins for 20 days, then aging for 12 months in French oak barrels. After bottling, the wine undergoes a further 4 months of aging before release.

La Pizzuta del Principe

The 100-hectare estate is located 20 km north of the city of Crotone. The vines are irrigated by the Viravo River and caressed by the breezes of the Ionian Sea. Albino Bianchi, from an old Italian family with a deep connection to nature, decided to found La Pizzuta del Principe in the early 1990s to cultivate the grapes from his land and produce quality wines with unique aromas. The estate is currently undergoing organic conversion.

Calabria

Located at the southernmost tip of the Italian peninsula, between the Tyrrhenian and Ionian Seas, Calabria is a mountainous and sunny region where vines have been cultivated since antiquity. Benefiting from a hot, dry Mediterranean climate, tempered by sea breezes, the region offers ideal conditions for the production of powerful and aromatic wines.

The emblematic grape variety of Calabria is Gaglioppo, which produces dense, elegant, and slightly spicy reds, particularly in the Cirò appellation, the region's most renowned. Other local varieties such as Magliocco, Greco Nero, and Mantonico also contribute richness and complexity to the production, while the whites, often made from Greco Bianco, are distinguished by their freshness and citrus notes.

Long overlooked on the international stage, Calabria is now experiencing a revival led by a new generation of winemakers eager to showcase their terroir. Authentic, expressive, and bursting with sunshine, Calabrian wines embody the generosity of southern Italy.
