Aligoté 2023, Geneva AOC, Damien Mermoud, Lully

Regular price CHF 16.50

Description

A natural cross between Gouais Blanc and Pinot Noir, its presence has been documented in Burgundy since the 17th century and in Geneva since 1917. It reveals subtle notes of lemon, green apple, and acacia. Fresh and with good acidity, it is perfect as an aperitif, but also pairs well with fish in a lemon butter sauce.

The vines face south and southwest at an altitude ranging from 425 to 485 meters. The harvest is exclusively manual. This is the predominant white grape variety of the estate, covering 1 hectare of the vineyard. The majority of the vines are old, planted between 1982 and 1984.

The winemaking and aging processes take place in enamelled steel tanks. Bottling occurs the spring following the harvest.

Damien Mermoud

It is located on the Lully hillside, in the municipality of Bernex. In 1947, driven by a spirit of independence, Paul and Edouard decided to add value to the vineyard's produce by bottling and selling their first bottles. Gradually expanding, the estate was revitalized with the arrival of Luc in 1976, followed by his wife Liliane. The purchase of some plots and the leasing of others have brought the vineyard area to its current size of 4.7 hectares. Damien returned to the estate in 2006 to continue the adventure. Since 2007, the major shift towards organic viticulture has been underway. The estate has been undergoing organic conversion since January 2019, and biodynamic farming practices were introduced the same year.

Geneva

The Geneva vineyard is one of the oldest and most dynamic in Switzerland. Located at the crossroads of French and Swiss influences, it stretches across varied hillsides bordering the Rhône, the Arve, and Lake Geneva. In terms of area, it is now the third largest vineyard in the country.

With a wide variety of local and international grape varieties planted, and wines of exceptional quality, its vineyard has become a benchmark in the Swiss wine landscape. A new generation of winemakers has breathed new life into the estate and is adopting a more modern and globally minded approach.

Geneva also stands out for its commitment to sustainability, with a growing number of certified organic or in-conversion vineyards, and for the GRTA (Geneva Region – Land of the Future) label, which recognizes production that respects the terroir. Blending tradition and innovation, Geneva's vineyards perfectly illustrate the energy and creativity of contemporary Swiss viticulture.
