The nose is marked by notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, and spice. On the palate, this lovely aromatic profile is echoed by small black fruits. The wine is round, full, and deep, and the pleasantly supple tannins lend finesse and elegance to the whole. It is a beautiful wine for aging, but can also be enjoyed in its youth.

The plot that makes up the Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyard is scattered with rounded pebbles; the soil consists of a marly, sandy, and clayey sedimentary substrate into which the roots plunge deep to draw water and moisture. The annual sunshine (around 2,800 hours per year) here far exceeds that of all the major French vineyards. Harvest at optimal ripeness.

The grapes undergo an initial sorting in the vineyard. A second sorting takes place upon arrival at the winery, where they are transported in small 25 kg crates. The finest Grenache and Syrah bunches are vinified without destemming. Maceration is long and gentle in temperature-controlled tanks. During fermentation, several punch-downs may be performed. The wine is aged for 18 months, partially in oak barrels. This is a very limited-production cuvée, with an annual output of only 2,800 bottles.

Domaine La Cabotte

1981 erwarb Gabriel d'Ardhuy, ein renommierter Winzer aus dem Burgund, ein Anwesen und übergab es seiner sieben Töchter Marie-Pierre. Das teilweise vernachlässigte Gut wurde von ihr wieder seinem ursprünglichen Zweck, dem Weinbau, zugeführt. Ihr Mann Eric unterstützte sie dabei, und 2016 stieß ihr Sohn Etienne hinzu. Das Weingut verdankt seinen Namen einem aus Trockenmauerwerk errichteten Unterstand, der der rauen Sommerhitze und den strengen Wintern trotzt. Es umfasst 45 Hektar zusammenhängende Fläche, darunter 30 Hektar perfekt gelegene Weinberge. Seit 2007 ist das gesamte Weingut biodynamisch zertifiziert.

Südliches Rhônetal

Die Rhône ist eine der bedeutendsten Weinregionen Frankreichs und berühmt für ihre zahlreichen, ikonischen Appellationen. Sie erstreckt sich entlang der Rhône zwischen Vienne und Avignon und gliedert sich in zwei deutlich unterschiedliche Teile: den Norden und den Süden. Letzterer präsentiert sich als weitläufiges Mosaik, in dem die AOCs (Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée) dem Grenache Noir, vorwiegend verschnitten mit Syrah und Mourvèdre, eine herausragende Stellung einräumen. Bei den Weißweinen sind insbesondere Grenache Blanc, Marsanne und Roussanne vertreten.

Im Süden bringen die vielfältigen Terroirs aus Kieselsteinen, Sand und Lehm vollmundige, sonnenverwöhnte und warme Weine hervor. Auch das Rhônetal zeichnet sich durch eine lange Weinbautradition und ein starkes Bekenntnis zum Respekt vor dem Terroir aus. Viele Winzer dort betreiben heute nachhaltigen Weinbau.

What is a natural wine?

A natural wine is made from organic or biodynamic grapes, harvested by hand and vinified without chemical inputs. No yeast or additives are used, and sulfur is very limited. The wine thus fully reflects the terroir and the winemaker's work.
